Ironworks | Holbeck Urban Village

LAAND were appointed as Landscape Architects by IglooNick Brown Architects on this award winning residential led, mixed-use development in Holbeck Urban Village, Leeds. The development will consist of 57 apartments, 15 townhouses and two retail units and sits within the Round Foundry complex where Matthew Murray made his name as one of the pioneering engineers of the 19th century.  LAAND worked closely with the Nick Brown Architects to secure planning permission for this exciting modern scheme, providing a public realm that respected the neighbouring developments whilst allowing the Ironworks identity to be realised with defensible space and corten steel detailing.  Feature strips  within the paving include historic facts and industry inspired poetry reflecting the changing landscape of the area.  A planting scheme of perennials and grasses provide colour and movement within the urban environment and allows people to animate the spaces and provide a new wildflower setting for the Wonderwood sculpture.

Our commission included negotiating with the local authority on landscape matters, detail design and value engineering workshops, taking the design from conception through to developed design.
