LAAND was commissioned to provide planning support and develop landscape proposals for the new Hotel regeneration project off Bridge Street in Mabgate, Leeds City Centre. This is the first phase of an exciting new development that proposes 5 new towers offering residential and commercial units amongst extensive public realm and private roof gardens.
The landscape proposals aim to provide a space that responds directly to the rhythm and pattern of the architecture, encouraging free movement amongst a vibrant public realm, improved biodiversity and green infrastructure. The landscape aims to create a unique sense of place that reflects the aspiration of the building and its new use in the regeneration of the Mabgate quarter whilst providing a new green, pedestrian friendly corridor linking Lovell Park and St Mary’s. A strong green buffer was required to reduce the impact of the car parking and coach drop off areas to neighbouring streets. A new meanwhile use space was created off Regent to temporarily activate this main Leeds thoroughfare providing opportunities for pop-up events, markets and external art features on the site of the proposed contractor compound.
